What it is
A GST return is a short form you send MIRA (the Maldives tax office). Most shops send it every 3 months. Eveyla adds up the GST from your sales and your supplier bills. It shows what you pay MIRA and when it is due. You file and pay on MIRAconnect, MIRA's website. Eveyla shows you how. This comes with the Bills and GST add-on.
Find it
- Tap Insights in the bar at the bottom.
- Tap the round button with a page picture, at the top right. Reports opens.
- Scroll down to the row of small buttons that starts with All.
- Tap Charges and tax.
- Tap GST return. It says "What you pay MIRA, and a guide to file it" under it.
On a computer, Insights is in the bar on the left, and the button says Reports.
You can also tap the GST you can take off card on the Money tab of Insights.
If you see other words:
- "Turn on GST in Settings first": your shop does not charge GST yet. See Add GST to your prices. A senior manager sees "The owner turns on GST in Settings".
- "GST on sales": your shop does not have the add-on. That row shows the GST on your sales only. See Get your GST sales numbers.
- A page that says "Turn on GST in Settings, Tax & GST first": the owner can tap Open Tax & GST.
- A page that says "File it without stress": your shop does not have the add-on. Tap See the sales-only GST report for the GST on your sales.
Every setting
GST you can take off
This card is on the Money tab of Insights, under Waiting on money. It shows only when GST is on.
It says "GST you can take off this month" and an amount, like "MVR 120.00". Under it, a line like "From 4 bills. It comes off the GST you pay MIRA." This is the GST on your supplier bills.
It may also say:
- how much of it is equipment. Equipment means things you keep for years, like a fridge. "Your GST return shows what fits."
- "2 bills need a fix." in orange.
- how many bills are past MIRA's 12-month limit.
The card uses the dates picked at the top of the Money tab. Tap the card to open your GST return.
Without the add-on, the owner may see a dark card with a lock. It says something like "Up to MVR 40 could come off". Tap it to open the add-on store. You can see the price there. See Bills and GST: what it adds.
To add the GST on a bill, or to mark a bill as Equipment, see Bills and GST: add a bill.
The top of the page
At the top, it says GST return and the period, like "July to September 2026". A period is the months one return covers. The owner also sees a gear at the top right. It opens GST settings (see below).
You may see a yellow note: "Tax invoices are paused." It shows when your shop's GST TIN is not the full 13 characters, like 1234567GST501. (Your TIN is your tax number from MIRA.) The owner can tap Open GST settings at the end of the note. It opens Tax & GST in Settings, not the gear's GST settings. See Bills and GST: tax invoices.
Which return
Under the title are three buttons:
- The first is the last period. A tick after it means you marked it filed.
- The second is the period you are in now.
- Past opens Your GST returns (see below).
The page opens on the last period if it is not filed yet. If it is filed, the page opens on the period you are in now.
Under the buttons, a bar shows where this return is: 1 · Adding up, 2 · Ready to file or 3 · Filed.
You pay MIRA
The green card shows what you pay MIRA, in whole MVR, with no cents.
- While the period is still going, it says "You pay MIRA so far". It also shows the due day and Still adding up.
- When the period has ended, it says "You pay MIRA" and the due day, like "By Wed 28 Oct". Next to it: how many days are left, Due today, or how many days late.
- After you mark it filed, it says "You paid MIRA" and the day you filed.
If your bills had more GST than your sales, the card says so: "MIRA carries it to your next return."
The white card under it shows the amount line by line:
- GST you collected: the GST inside your sales. It is added.
- GST you paid on bills: the GST on bills from GST suppliers. It is taken off.
- Sometimes GST on bad debts (money a customer will never pay you) or GST charged by mistake.
- You pay at the bottom, or Carried to next return.
Before you file
While the period is still going, this card is called So far. It lists:
- "All sales up to 30 Sep are counted", or "Sales up to today are counted".
- Orders placed in this period that are not paid and not handed over yet. Each one counts in the period it is paid or delivered.
- How many bills are ready to take GST off. Or "No bills with GST yet. Add them in Money".
- An orange row, like "2 bills can't be claimed yet". It says how much less you pay if you fix them. Tap Fix to see those bills.
How filing works on MIRAconnect
When the period has ended, the owner sees the five parts of filing. Then Have these ready: your MIRAconnect username and password, the bills to upload, and "A computer is easier for MIRAconnect. Keep Eveyla on your phone."
Tap Start filing, step by step to begin. See Bills and GST: the filing guide.
A senior manager sees "The owner files the return. You can see it here." instead.
A quiet period, but you still file
Sometimes a period ends with no sales, no bills and nothing to fix. Then the page shows "A quiet period, but you still file". MIRA still needs a short "nil return" by the due day. That is the return you file when you had no sales and no bills.
- Tap Open nil return page. MIRA's website opens.
- Type your GST TIN. The card in Eveyla shows it.
- Pick the period. The card shows it too.
- Submit. There is nothing to pay.
- Back in Eveyla, tap I've filed it. Only the owner sees this button.
There is a fine if you file late.
Cards that show only sometimes
- Changes to earlier sales: refunds, cancels and edits made in this period to sales from an earlier period. They are already in the numbers above.
- Bills that came in after an earlier return: bills from a period you already filed. They count in this return instead.
- Equipment GST for a later return: equipment GST that does not fit in this return. It moves to your next return once you mark this one as filed. "Nothing is lost."
See all 13 boxes
Tap it to see every box of MIRA's form. Each box shows its number, a plain name, MIRA's name and the amount. Tap it again to close the list.
Bills list for MIRA
The card shows how many bills, their GST, and "Excel for MIRAconnect". Excel is a kind of table file. Tap the card. A page called Bills list for MIRA opens. MIRA calls it the input tax statement.
- At the top: Bills, Spent before GST and GST on them.
- Each bill shows the supplier, bill number, date and GST, with a green TIN ✓. Some also show Equipment, From an earlier return or Came in late.
- With no bills on the list, it says "No bills with GST and a TIN in this period."
- Not on the list yet lists bills with GST that cannot go on the list, with the reason. For example "Supplier TIN missing or not like 1234567GST501", or "No bill number from" and the supplier's name. A bill you fix after you file goes into your next return.
- Equipment waiting for a later return lists equipment bills that are not in these files. They move to your next return when you mark this one as filed.
- Download bills list (Excel) saves the file you upload on MIRAconnect. It is grey when there are no bills on the list.
- Download equipment sheet (Excel) shows when a bill is marked Equipment. MIRA wants these on a separate sheet.
On an iPhone, a share menu opens so you can save the file.
If you see "Eveyla has been updated. Reload, then download again.", tap Reload. Then download again.
Tap the back arrow at the top left to go back.
Your taxable activity number
MIRA needs this number on the bills list and on page 2 of the return. It is on your GST certificate, next to your business activity. Most shops with one business activity have 1.
If it is not saved, the app asks for it. This happens when you first download the bills list or start filing:
- Type the number in the box that says "Like 1".
- Tap Save.
Use numbers only, up to 3 digits. You can change it later in GST settings. A senior manager cannot save it. They see "Ask the owner to add it in GST settings, then download again."
I've filed it
Tap I've filed it on a quiet period. A sheet called Well done. One last thing. opens. (A sheet is a panel that covers part of the screen.) On a filed return, Add the voucher number opens the same sheet. Then it is called Filing details.
- Voucher number: the number MIRAconnect shows after you submit. You can add it later.
- Filed on: the day you filed. It starts with today, or with the day you saved before.
- Did you pay the MVR 1,200?: shows when there is something to pay. Pick Yes, on MIRAconnect, Yes, by bank transfer or Not yet. Yes, on MIRAconnect is picked when you start, unless you answered before. Under Not yet, it says "Late payment adds a fine, so pay soon".
Tap Save as filed. The app says "July to September 2026 saved as filed", and Your GST returns opens.
The period is then closed. A bill you add later goes into the next return. A bill with GST in a filed return is locked. You cannot change its amount, GST, supplier, bill number or date. You cannot delete it. See Bills and GST: add a bill.
Filed returns
On a filed return, the owner sees a line under the bills list card. For example: "Filed 12 Oct · voucher 26-00412345." With no voucher number, tap Add the voucher number.
For a short time after you mark it filed, you also see Marked by mistake? Reopen it. Tap it to open the return again. The app says "Reopened. Mark it filed again once you've filed it."
Your GST returns
Tap Past, or Past returns at the bottom of the page. Under the title, it says "You file every 3 months" or "You file every month".
- When the last period is filed, it says so, like "July to September 2026 is filed. Nothing to do until 28 Jan."
- A card shows the period you are in now. It says Adding up, what you pay so far, and the due day. It says "We'll remind you a week before." The reminder comes on Telegram, when it is set up (see GST settings).
- If the last period is not filed, a row says "Not filed yet · due 28 Oct". It has an orange warning sign.
- Every return you marked filed shows a lock, the day you filed, the voucher number and the amount.
With no filed returns, it says "Returns you mark as filed show here." Tap any return to open it.
At the bottom, the app says "Filed returns never change. A bill or refund that comes in late goes into the open return."
What do these words mean?
This link is at the bottom of the page. It opens GST words, made simple. It explains MIRA's words in plain words. For example:
- Output tax: GST you collected on your sales.
- Input tax: GST you paid on bills.
- Input tax statement: the list of those bills. Eveyla calls it your bills list.
- Voucher number: the number MIRAconnect gives you after you file. Proof you filed.
It also explains GST, GST return, TIN, Tax invoice, Credit note, Debit note, Zero-rated, Exempt, Nil return and MIRAconnect.
GST settings
Only the owner sees this. Tap the gear at the top right of the GST return. A sheet called GST settings opens.
- GST TIN: your tax number. "Change it in Settings, Tax & GST."
- Taxable activity number: see above.
- How often you file: Every 3 months (picked when you start) is for most shops. It is due 28 January, April, July and October. Every month is for sales of MVR 1 million or more a month, or if MIRA approved it. It is due the 28th of the next month. "Not sure? MIRA wrote it on your GST registration letter."
- Remind me before it's due: 1 week before and 2 days before are on when you start. On the day is off. Tap one to turn it on or off. Dark means on.
- Reminders on: this switch turns all reminders off. Turn it back on to get 1 week before and 2 days before again.
Tap Save. The app says "GST settings saved".
GST return due on Telegram
Reminders go to your shop's Telegram at 9 in the morning. Telegram must be linked first. See Get orders on Telegram.
The message says "GST return due in 7 days" (or in 2 days, or today). Then, for example, "July to September 2026 is ready to file. You pay MVR 1,200." With nothing to pay, it says "Nothing to pay this time, but you still file." Tap Start filing to open your GST return.
Who can use it
- The owner can do everything here.
- A senior manager can see the return, the bills list, past returns and the words page. They can download the bills list once the activity number is saved. They cannot change GST settings, start filing or mark a return as filed.
- Managers and staff cannot open Insights.
It needs a Storefront, the Bills and GST add-on, and GST turned on in Settings. You can see the price in the add-on store. See Turn an add-on on or off.
Common mistakes
I don't see Start filing, step by step
Only the owner sees it. It shows after the period has ended, until you mark the return as filed. If the card says Still adding up, the period is still going. Tap the first button under the title to see the last period. If the page says "A quiet period, but you still file", file a nil return instead.
A bill can't be claimed yet
Tap Fix. Each bill under Not on the list yet shows what is wrong. To fix a bill:
- Tap Insights.
- Tap Money.
- Scroll down to Latest.
- Tap All expenses next to it.
- Tap Needs a fix.
- Tap the bill.
- Add what is missing, like the supplier's TIN or the bill number.
- Tap Save changes.
Only the owner can change a bill. All expenses shows the dates picked at the top of the Money tab. If the bill is from an earlier month, change the dates first. A bill older than MIRA's 12-month limit cannot be fixed. See Bills and GST: add a bill.
MIRAconnect shows a different period
- Tap the gear at the top right of the GST return.
- Under How often you file, tap the right choice. MIRA wrote it on your GST registration letter.
- Tap Save.
I marked it filed by mistake
- Tap Past under the title of the GST return.
- Tap the return.
- Tap Marked by mistake? Reopen it, under the bills list card.
This link only shows for a short time after you mark it filed.
A yellow note says my shop is set to a different GST rate
It says, for example, "Your shop is set to GST at 17%. This return and guide are for general GST at 8%." Check your rate in Settings, Tax & GST. See Add GST to your prices. The app also says a tourism GST return is different, so ask MIRA about it.
Tip
Add each supplier bill on the day you get it, with the supplier's TIN and the bill number. Then the bill goes on your bills list, and its GST comes off what you pay MIRA.
