What it is
A bill is an expense from a supplier. A supplier is a shop or company that sells to your shop. With the Bills and GST add-on, an expense can keep more details. For example, the supplier, the GST, the bill number and a photo. With them, the GST on your bills can come off what you pay MIRA. MIRA is the Maldives tax office. You can still add plain expenses, like rent, without these details. See Add your expenses.
Find it
- Tap Insights in the bar at the bottom.
- Tap Money at the top. It is the fourth tab.
- Tap the green Expense button at the bottom right.
A sheet called New expense slides up. (A sheet is a panel that covers part of the screen.)
On a computer, Insights is in the bar on the left.
If the round buttons under Bill details have a small lock, your shop does not have the add-on. See Bills and GST: what it adds.
Every setting
To add a bill from a photo:
- Tap Snap or upload the bill at the top. Your phone offers the camera or your photos.
- Take a photo of the bill, or pick one. The button says "Adding the photo", then "Grow is reading your bill".
- Wait a few seconds. A green note starts with "Grow filled this in".
- Check the amount and the Bill date.
- Under What was it for?, tap a tile, like Ingredients. Grow does not fill this in.
- Check Paid?. If the bill is not paid yet, Grow may pick Later.
- Check each round button under Bill details.
- Tap Add expense at the bottom.
To type a bill:
- Type the total on the number pad.
- Under What was it for?, tap a tile, like Ingredients.
- Under Paid?, tap Now or Later. Now is picked when you start.
- Scroll down to Bill details.
- Tap Supplier.
- Tap the supplier's name. For a new one, see Supplier below.
- Tap GST.
- Tap the rate printed on the bill, like 8%.
- Tap Bill no.
- Type the number from the bill in the No. box.
- Tap Add expense at the bottom.
A message says "Expense saved". If you tapped Later, the bill also shows under You owe on the Money tab. See Bills and GST: suppliers and what you owe.
The amount, What was it for?, Paid?, Bill date, Note and Every month work as for any expense. See Add your expenses.
Snap or upload the bill
This big button with a camera is at the top of a new bill. Under it, it says "Camera or gallery. Grow fills it in for 1 credit". Grow is your shop assistant in Eveyla.
Grow fills in the amount, the date and the bill number. It also fills in the GST, the supplier and the lines on the bill. If the bill is not paid yet, it picks Later under Paid? and may fill in the Due day. The photo stays with the bill.
When Grow is done, a green note says one of these:
- "Grow filled this in and the numbers add up. Check it, then save."
- "Grow filled this in, but the lines are 20.00 short of the total. Check the items before you save." It may say "over" instead of "short of".
- "Grow filled this in. Check it, then save."
If Grow does not know the supplier yet, it fills in a new supplier for you. Nothing is saved until you tap Add expense.
When you edit a bill, this button is not there. Use Photo instead.
Bill details
These are the round buttons under the Bill details heading: Supplier, GST, Bill no., Photo, Due day or Paid by, Items, Equipment and Order.
Tap a button to open its box under the buttons. Tap Done to close it. When a button is filled in, it turns green with a tick. What you picked shows under it, like the supplier's name.
Supplier
The box is called Who you paid.
- Your saved suppliers show as buttons with their names. Tap one to pick it. Tap it again to unpick it.
- Under the buttons, it says how many you saved, like "5 saved".
- To find one, type in the Search suppliers box. It says "2 found" or "No saved supplier by that name".
- To add a new one, tap New supplier. If you typed a name that is not saved, it says Add “Aisha Traders”.
A new supplier has three boxes: Supplier name, Their GST TIN and Phone (optional). The TIN is the supplier's tax number. The app says: "The TIN is printed on their tax invoice. You need it to take the GST off." The new supplier is saved when you save the bill. To go back to the list, tap Pick a saved supplier instead.
If a TIN does not look right, an orange note says: "MIRA's GST TIN has 13 characters, like 1234567GST501. Check this one, or this bill stays off MIRA's bills list." You can still save.
The supplier you picked may have no TIN, or a TIN that looks wrong. Then an orange note says one of these:
- "Aisha Traders has no TIN saved. Add it to take the GST off."
- "Aisha Traders's saved TIN, 12345, isn't in MIRA's format. Type the right one to take the GST off."
Type the TIN in the Their GST TIN box under it. It is saved to the supplier when you save the bill.
To change or delete a saved supplier, tap Edit at the top of the box. See Bills and GST: suppliers and what you owe.
GST
The box is called GST on this bill. Claiming GST means taking it off what you pay MIRA.
Tap the rate printed on the bill: None (picked when you start), 8% or 17%. For a bill dated before 1 July 2025, you also see Other. Tap it. Then tap a rate under "Rates in force on 7 Oct 2024". These are the rates used on the bill date.
After you tap a rate, pick one:
- Work it out (picked first): the app shows the GST inside your total, like MVR 8.00.
- Type from the bill: for when the bill shows the GST. Type it in the GST on the bill box.
A list shows what the claim needs. Each line has a green tick or an orange sign: "The supplier's GST TIN", "The bill number", "A GST rate in force on the bill date" and "Your shop charges GST". A very old bill also shows "Within MIRA's 12-month limit".
Under the list, it says "All set. This GST comes off what you pay MIRA." Or it says what is wrong, like "Can't be claimed yet: add the bill number." See Common mistakes below.
If your shop does not charge GST, the box says: "Your shop isn't charging GST in Eveyla. You can note the GST here, but only GST-registered shops can take it off. Turn on GST in Settings, Tax & GST." See Add GST to your prices.
With None, it says "No GST on this bill, like a market or a person who isn't GST-registered."
A green line under the amount, at the top of the sheet, shows the GST. For example, "GST 8.00 is inside this".
Bill no.
The box is called Bill number. It says: "The invoice number on the bill. You can search by it, and we warn you if it's added twice." Type the number in the No. box. You need it to claim the GST.
Photo
The box is called Bill photo. Tap Add photo to take or pick a photo of the bill. Then you can tap:
- Change photo to use another one.
- Remove to take it off.
- Let Grow fill it in · 1 credit to let Grow fill in the bill from the photo.
When there is a photo, the Photo button says "Added" under it.
Due day
This button shows only when Paid? is Later. The box is called When it's due.
Tap In 7 days, In 14 days or In 30 days. They count from the Bill date. Or tap the date box and pick a day. The app says: "It shows in You owe, in orange when it's close."
Paid by
This button shows only when Paid? is Now. Tap how you paid: Cash, Transfer or Card. Nothing is picked when you start. Tap it again to clear it.
Items
The box is called What's on the bill. It says: "Optional. Shows what you bought."
- Tap Add a line.
- Type what you bought in the Item box.
- Type its price in the MVR box.
To take a line off, tap the X next to it. The Items button shows how many lines you added.
When you type prices, a line under them checks the total. For a bill of 540.00, it can say:
- "Lines add up to 540.00. Matches the total."
- "Lines add up to 500.00. The rest, 40.00, is the GST."
- "Lines add up to 300.00 of 540.00. 240.00 not listed yet."
- "Lines add up to 600.00, which is 60.00 more than the total of 540.00."
Equipment
The box says: "Something you keep for years, like a fridge, oven or scale." Tap the switch so it turns green. It is grey (off) when you start. The app says: "MIRA wants these on a second sheet with your GST return. We add it for you."
In All expenses, the bill shows an Equipment label.
Order
The box is called For an order. Use it when you bought something for one customer's order.
- Type an order number or a name in the Order number or customer box.
- Tap the order, like "#1042 · Aisha".
The button now shows "#1042". To take it off, tap Unlink.
Same bill twice?
When you tap Add expense, an orange box called Same bill twice? may show at the top of the sheet. It means you already added a bill like this from the same supplier. For example: "Aisha Traders already has a bill 1767 for MVR 500.00 on 7 Oct. Is this the same bill?"
- Yes, don't add it: the sheet closes. The bill is not added.
- No, add it: the bill is added.
Change or delete a bill
- On the Money tab, tap All expenses, next to Latest.
- Tap the bill. A sheet called Edit expense opens.
- Change what you need.
- Tap Save changes at the bottom. A message says "Expense updated".
You can also tap a bill under Latest. All expenses shows only the days you picked on the Money tab. If you do not see the bill, pick its days first. See See money in and money out.
To delete a bill:
- Open the bill. A sheet called Edit expense opens.
- Tap Delete at the bottom.
- Scroll up to the top of the sheet. It says "This removes the expense from your money book. It can't be undone."
- Tap Delete expense.
To keep the bill, tap Keep it instead.
After you mark a GST return as filed, its bills with GST are locked. See Bills and GST: your GST return.
Who can use it
Only the owner can add, change or delete bills. Senior managers can see them on the Money tab, but cannot change them. Managers and staff do not see Insights.
Bills need a Storefront and the Bills and GST add-on. When Grow reads a photo, it uses Grow credits. Typing a bill does not. See Grow credits.
Common mistakes
Nothing happens when I tap Add expense
A message, or the Same bill twice? box, shows at the top of the sheet. Scroll up to read it. For example:
- "Write what it was for, or tap one below." Tap a tile under What was it for?.
- "Enter an amount greater than 0." Type the total on the number pad.
- "Pick a date." Pick the day under Bill date.
- "GST can't be more than the bill." Check the total, and the GST under GST.
It says Can't be claimed
The GST on this bill cannot come off your GST return yet. Read the line under the list in GST. It says what to fix:
- "Can't be claimed yet: add the supplier's GST TIN from their tax invoice." Add it under Supplier.
- "Can't be claimed yet: the supplier's TIN isn't in MIRA's format, like 1234567GST501." Fix it under Supplier.
- "Can't be claimed yet: add the bill number." Type it under Bill no.
- "Can't be claimed: 17% GST wasn't in force on 7 Oct 2024. On that date it was 8% or 16%. Check the bill and the date." Check the rate under GST, and the Bill date.
- "Can't be claimed: this bill is more than 12 months past the end of its own GST period. MIRA doesn't allow it any more." This one cannot be fixed.
- "Only GST-registered shops can take this GST off." Turn on GST for your shop. See Add GST to your prices.
In All expenses, bills that need a fix show a Needs TIN or bill no. label.
Grow couldn't read this one
The app says "No credit was used." The photo is kept, so fill in the bill yourself:
- Type the total on the number pad.
- Under What was it for?, tap a tile.
- Fill in the round buttons under Bill details.
- Tap Add expense.
If it says "You're out of Grow credits", get more credits or type the bill. See Grow credits.
I can't find Due day
Due day shows only when Paid? is Later. Paid by shows only when Paid? is Now.
It says This bill is in a GST return you filed
You marked that GST return as filed. Its bills with GST cannot be deleted. Their amount, GST, supplier, bill number and date cannot change. If it says "That date is in a GST return you filed", add it as a new bill instead. It goes into your next return. See Bills and GST: your GST return.
Tip
Add each supplier's TIN the first time you add a bill from them. After that, a new bill from them needs the GST rate and the bill number. Then its GST can come off.
