What it is
A tax invoice is a receipt with its own number, like INV-0001. A business needs it to claim back the GST it paid. With the Bills and GST add-on, every sale gets one. It is made when the sale is paid or handed over. The receipt then says Tax Invoice.
A business customer can put their business name, GST TIN and address on it. A GST TIN is the tax number a business gets from MIRA, the Maldives tax office. If you change an order later, the invoice stays as it is. The app adds a credit note or a debit note instead.
Find it
Tax invoices start when you have all three:
- the Bills and GST add-on. See Bills and GST: what it adds.
- GST turned on, in Settings under Tax & GST. See Add GST to your prices.
- your full GST TIN in Tax & GST. It has 13 letters and numbers, like 1234567GST501.
To see all your tax invoices:
- Tap Insights in the bar at the bottom.
- Tap the round button with a page picture, at the top right. A page called Reports opens.
- Scroll down to the row of small buttons that starts with All.
- Tap Charges and tax.
- Tap Tax invoices. It says "Invoices and credit notes, in number order" under it.
On a computer, Insights is in the bar on the left, and the button says Reports.
To see the invoice of one order:
- On the order board, tap the order. Finished orders are under Done.
- Find the Tax invoice card. It is near the top, under the payment.

Tax invoices
This is the list of every tax invoice and note, in number order. Under the title, it says "Every sale's invoice, in number order".
- Tap the date button under the title to pick other days. It says This month when you start.
- Tap All, Invoices, Notes or Businesses to choose what the list shows. Each button shows how many there are.
- Each row shows the customer, the number and the order, like "INV-0012 · order #85".
- A grey or green INV box means a tax invoice. Green means it has a business on it, and the row says Business.
- An orange CN box is a credit note (money taken off). The row reads like "CN-0003 · refund on INV-0012". It shows a minus, like −150.00.
- An orange DN box is a debit note (money added). The row says "extra on" and shows a plus.
- Cancelled, see credit note means the order was cancelled after its invoice was made.
Tap a row to open the customer's order page, with the receipt, in a new tab.
To save the list, tap the download button at the top right. You get a spreadsheet file for the days you picked. It has every invoice and note for those days. It does not matter which button is picked. Credit notes go in as minus numbers.
At the bottom, the app says: "Each number is used once. A refund never deletes an invoice, it adds a credit note." It also shows the next number, like "Next invoice: INV-0013."
When the list is empty, it says "No tax invoices this month. Sales get one when they're paid or handed over."
Tax invoice
This card is on each order's page, under the payment. At the top, it says one of these:
- "Tax invoice INV-0012" and "Made 17 Oct 2026. It's on the receipt."
- "Tax invoice" and "Made when the order is paid or handed over."
- "Not made yet. This sale needs the buyer's business details." See Sales of MVR 5,000 or more below.
- "Not made. The sale has a receipt." This is a sale of MVR 5,000 or more that got no business details.
To add a business customer's details:
- Tap Customer is a business? Add their TIN on the card. For a sale of MVR 5,000 or more, it says Add the buyer's business details.
- If you sold to this business before, tap its name at the top. Its details fill in.
- If not, type the Business name, Business GST TIN and Business address.
- Leave Save for next time on (green) to keep this business for later sales.
- Tap Add to the invoice.
The app says "Business details added to the invoice". The card now shows the business name and its TIN. To close the boxes without saving, tap Cancel.
You can only add business details for a short time after the sale. The app shows how long you have. After that, the link is gone. A card with no business then says "No business on this invoice."
Customers seeTax Invoice and its number on their receipt. With business details, the receipt also shows "To" with the business name, address and TIN.
Credit notes and debit notes
When you change an order that has a tax invoice, the edit sheet shows a green note. (A sheet is a panel that covers part of the screen.) It says: "Tax invoice INV-0012 stays as it is. Saving makes a credit note for what you took off, and the GST return picks it up." When you add something, it says debit note instead. See Change an order.
Cancelling or refunding an order with a tax invoice also makes a credit note. See Cancel or refund an order.
On the order page, each note has its own row on the Tax invoice card. It reads like Credit note CN-0003, with the amount. Tap it to open the note. It shows the reason, what changed, the GST change and the new total. Tap it again to close it.
An As issued box shows the invoice as it was first made. The app says: "The invoice stays as issued. Later changes are on the notes below."
Customers seethe note on their receipt, and a row like "Credit note CN-0003" on their order page. They tap it to see the note.
Sales of MVR 5,000 or more
For a sale of MVR 5,000 or more, a tax invoice needs the buyer's business details. Without them, the sale stays a receipt. The app tells you this on the Counter (the POS tab) and on the order card. Customers are told at checkout (the last page, where customers place the order). On the order card, tap Add the buyer's business details to add them.
Customer is a business?
Use this at the Counter, before you take the money.
- Tap POS in the bar at the bottom.
- Tap the items the customer buys.
- Tap Charge at the bottom. A sheet called Charge opens.
- Tap the switch next to Customer is a business?. It is under Discount. It turns green.
- If you sold to this business before, tap its name under "Pick one you've sold to before". Then go to step 8.
- If it is a new business, tap New business.
- Type the Business name, Business GST TIN and Business address.
- Tap how the customer pays, like Cash.
- Tap the green button at the bottom, like Confirm cash · MVR 120.
The first time, you have no saved businesses. The three boxes show right away, so skip step 6.
The switch is off when you start. It says "Their name and TIN go on the tax invoice". A business you add here is saved for next time. When you pick Pay link, the switch is not there. See Make a sale at the Counter.
Customers seeTax Invoice, the number, and the business name and TIN on the receipt.
Buying for a business?
You do not set this up. When your shop makes tax invoices, customers see it at checkout.
Customers seea box called Buying for a business? that says "Get a tax invoice so your business can claim back the GST". They turn it on and fill in Business name, Business GST TIN and Business address. The app says "We remember these on this phone for next time."
Customers see"For a tax invoice on MVR 5,000 or more, add your business details." on a big order. If a box is empty, they see "Add your business name, GST TIN and address, or switch off Buying for a business."
Add your business TIN
Customers can also add their business after they order, from their order page. See What customers see after they order.
Customers seeAdd your business TIN under the receipt. It opens Your business on the invoice with Name, GST TIN and Address. They tap Add to the invoice. Then they see "Your business is on the invoice." If it does not work, they see "Ask the shop to add your business details."
Tax invoices are paused
This yellow note shows when your TIN is not a full GST TIN. The owner sees: "Tax invoices are paused. Add your full GST TIN (13 characters, like 1234567GST501) to start them again. Until then, paid sales get receipts."
The owner taps Open GST settings. It opens Tax & GST, where you fix the TIN. Team members see a note that asks the owner to add it.
The note shows on Tax invoices, the GST return, the order page and in Tax & GST.
Customers seea receipt, not a tax invoice. Buying for a business? does not show at checkout.
Who can use it
- The Tax invoices list: the owner and senior managers.
- The Tax invoice card on an order, and adding business details later: the owner, senior managers and managers.
- Customer is a business? at the Counter: everyone who uses the Counter, staff too.
Tax invoices need a Storefront and the Bills and GST add-on. You can see the price in the add-on store.
Common mistakes
I don't see Tax invoices in Reports
Check these, one at a time:
- Another group of reports is picked. Tap Charges and tax or All in the row of small buttons.
- GST is off. The owner turns it on in Settings under Tax & GST. See Add GST to your prices.
- Your shop does not have the add-on. See Bills and GST: what it adds.
My sales get receipts, not tax invoices
Your TIN is not the full 13-character GST TIN. In Settings, the owner taps Tax & GST. Type the TIN from your GST certificate, like 1234567GST501. Then tap Save.
A sale of MVR 5,000 or more also stays a receipt when no business details are added. See Sales of MVR 5,000 or more above.
A red message asks for the business details
At the Counter, it says: "Add the business name, GST TIN and address, or switch off Customer is a business." A box can also say "Add the business name.", "Add the business address." or "The GST TIN has 13 characters, like 1234567GST501."
Fill in all three boxes. Ask the customer for the TIN on their GST certificate. If they have no GST TIN, switch off Customer is a business?.
"Sale saved, but the business details didn't save."
The sale is done, but the business is not on the invoice. Open the order right away. On the Tax invoice card, tap Customer is a business? Add their TIN. Staff cannot do this, so ask a manager.
If the Counter has no internet, the app says "The business details need a connection. Add them from the order once it syncs." Add them from the order when you are back online.
The link to add the business is gone
It was too late to add the details. Next time, turn on Customer is a business? before you tap the button to take the money. Online customers can turn on Buying for a business? at checkout.
Tip
Keep Save for next time on for business customers who come back. Next time, at the Counter, you tap their name and their details are filled in for you.
