What it is

An extra charge is a percentage added on top of each order. You choose its name, like service charge or packing fee. Cafés and restaurants often use it as a service charge. Customers see it as its own line before they pay.

Find it

  1. Tap Settings in the bar at the bottom.
  2. Scroll down to Delivery & payments.
  3. Tap Extra charge. Under it, it says "Add a percentage on top of every order".

A sheet called Extra charge opens. (A sheet is a panel that covers part of the screen.)

When the charge is on, the row shows its name instead, like Service charge or Packing fee.

On a computer, Settings is in the bar on the left.

If you do not see Delivery & payments, your shop is a free listing. An extra charge needs a Storefront. See Free listing and Storefront.

Every setting

To add a service charge:

  1. Tap the switch next to Service charge, near the top of the sheet. It turns green, and more settings show.
  2. Under the Name customers see box, tap Service charge. Or type your own name in the box.
  3. Under the Percentage (%) box, tap 10%. Or type your own number in the box.
  4. Under Charge it on, tap Items only or Items and delivery.
  5. Tap Save at the bottom.

In Settings, the row now shows the name of your charge. Under it, it says something like "10% on items".

Service charge

This is the box at the top of the sheet. It shows a bell and the name of your charge. Under the name, it says "A percentage added on top of every order."

The switch is on the right. When it is grey, the charge is off, and a note under the box explains the charge. When it is green, the charge is on.

To stop the charge, tap the switch so it turns grey. Then tap Save. The row in Settings says Extra charge again. When you turn the charge back on, the Percentage (%) box is empty. Type the percentage again.

Name customers see

This is the name customers see on the charge. The app says: "Shows on checkout, receipts, the order screen and your GST report." Checkout is the last page, where customers place the order.

Tap a name under the box: Service charge, Processing fee, Packing fee or Handling. Or type your own name in the box. If you leave the box empty, the name is "Service charge".

Insights also has a report with this name. It shows how much the charge collected each day. See Sales summary, sales by item and other free reports.

Percentage (%)

This is how much is added, as a percent. Tap 5%, 10% or 12% under the box, or type your own number. The grey 10 in the empty box is only an example.

At the bottom of the sheet, under all the settings, the app shows what it adds. For example: "On an order of MVR 340, Service charge 10% adds MVR 34.00".

Customers see

a line like "Service charge 10%" with the amount. It is in their basket, at checkout when they tap the total, and on their receipt.

On the checkout page, the short line under the total also names it, like "Includes MVR 30 delivery, service charge 10%". See How customers order from you.

Charge it on

You have two choices:

  • Items only: the charge is a percent of the items.
  • Items and delivery: the charge is a percent of the items and the delivery fee.

In Settings, the row says "10% on items" or "10% on items and delivery".

Charge it at the counter too

Under it, the app says: "Walk-in sales on the Counter screen". When the switch is green, sales at the Counter (the POS tab) also get the charge. When it is grey, only orders from your shop page get it. See Take cash, card, transfer or credit at the Counter.

Skip it on pickup orders

Under it, the app says: "Customers collecting in person are not charged". When the switch is green, pickup orders do not get the charge. In Settings, the row adds "· not on pickup".

Who can use it

Only the owner can set the extra charge. Senior managers, managers and staff do not see Settings.

With Charge it at the counter too on, everyone who uses the Counter sees the charge. The owner and senior managers can see the report in Insights.

An extra charge needs a Storefront.

Common mistakes

A red message says "Enter a percentage above 0 and up to 100."

The Percentage (%) box is empty, 0, or more than 100. Tap 10%, or type a number like 10. Then tap Save.

I cannot find Extra charge in Settings

When the charge is on, the row shows its name, like Service charge or Packing fee. It is under Delivery & payments, below USD prices.

An order has no service charge

Check these:

  • Was it a pickup order? With Skip it on pickup orders on, pickup orders get no charge.
  • Was it a Counter sale? Turn on Charge it at the counter too.

The Percentage box is empty

You turned the charge off and saved. Type the percentage again. Then tap Save.

What I typed is gone

The X at the top right closes the sheet without saving. Tapping the dark part of the screen does the same. Always tap Save before you leave.

Tip

After you save, place a test order from your shop page. You will see the line exactly as your customers see it. See Place a test order.
