What it is
A promo code is a short word, like SAVE10. Customers type it in their basket to get money off. You choose how much off, which items it is for and how long it works. For money off at the Counter (the POS tab), see Give a discount at the Counter.
Find it
- Tap Settings in the bar at the bottom.
- Scroll down to Promos & reviews.
- Tap Promos. It says Discount codes under it.
On a computer, Settings is in the bar on the left.
If you do not see Promos & reviews, your shop is a free listing. Promo codes need a Storefront. See Free listing and Storefront.
Every setting
No codes yet? Tap Create your first code in the middle of the page. Then go on from step 2.
To make a code:
- Tap + New code under the Promos title. A sheet called New promo code slides up from the bottom. (A sheet is a panel that covers part of the screen.)
- Type your code in the Code box. For example, SAVE10.
- Under Discount, tap Percent off or MVR off.
- Under Applies to, tap Whole cart or Some items.
- If you tapped Some items, tap Choose items under it. A sheet called Which items? opens. (With Whole cart, go to step 8.)
- In Which items?, tap each item the code is for.
- Tap Use 1 item at the bottom. It says Use 3 items if you picked 3. You are back in your code.
- Type the amount in the How much off (%) box, on the left. It says How much off (MVR) if you picked MVR off.
- If the code is only for some people, the Show on my storefront switch must be grey (off). Tap it if it is green.
- Tap Create code at the bottom.
Your new code is now at the top of the list. At the bottom right of the code, it says Active in green capital letters. Customers can use it right away.
The other settings are optional. Each one is explained below.
On a computer, the sheet opens in the middle of the screen.
Promos
This is the page with your codes. Under the title, the app says: "Your shop page shows one code as a banner. Private codes stay off it, so only the customers you send them to will know about them."
When you have no codes, the page says "No promo codes yet" and shows Create your first code.
When you have codes, the newest is at the top. Each code shows:
- the code and how much it takes off, like "10% OFF"
- the minimum order and the end date, like "Min order MVR 200 · ends 30 Oct"
- Whole cart, the item name, or a label like "3 items"
- Private if the code is not on the banner
- how many times it was used, like "3 of 10 used". A green bar fills up as it is used.
- a word that says how it is: Active, Paused, Expired or Limit reached (shown in capital letters)
Codes that are not Active look faded.
A code made by Grow also shows in this list. Grow is your shop assistant in Eveyla. It makes this code when you tap Add 10% off on the Bring them back screen. Leave it on if you sent it to customers. See Grow: bring back regulars.
Active and Paused
Each code has a switch on the right. When the switch is green, the code is on. When it is grey, the code is off.
- Tap the switch to turn the code off. The code now says Paused.
- Tap the switch again to turn it back on. The code says Active.
Customers see"Code is inactive." if they type a paused code. A paused code also leaves the banner.
When the code says Expired or Limit reached, the switch looks pale and does not move. To use the code again, tap the code and change it. See Edit code below.
Code
This is the word customers type. The box shows SUMMER20 in grey. That is only an example: type your own code.
- Use 3 to 24 letters or numbers, like SAVE10. You can also use dashes (-) and underscores (_).
- Do not use spaces.
- Letters turn into capitals as you type.
Customers seean Add a promo code button in their basket, above the total. They tap it, type the code in the Promo code box and tap Apply. The letters they type also turn into capitals.
When the code works, the basket shows "Promo SAVE10" with the money taken off. Under the total, it says "The shop confirms the final total". To take the code off, customers tap the × next to it. While a code is on, the Add a promo code button is gone. If the code is wrong, customers see "Code not found."
Customers add codes in the basket, not at checkout. Checkout is the last page, where customers place the order. There, the total already has the money off. See How customers order from you.
Customers see"Code SAVE10" and the money off when they tap the total at checkout. If the code stops working before they order, they see a message like "Code SAVE10 no longer applies: Code is inactive."
Customers see"Promo · SAVE10" as the discount line on the receipt on their order page.
In the order details on your order board, the money off shows as Discount. The line "Promo · SAVE10" is on the receipt picture. To get it, tap Save image or Share under Receipt.
Discount
You have two choices:
- Percent off (picked when you start): takes off a part of the price. For example, 10 means 10% off. On MVR 200, customers get MVR 20 off.
- MVR off: takes a set amount off. For example, MVR 50 off.
In your Promos list, the code shows "10% OFF" or "MVR 50 OFF".
Customers see"10% off" or "MVR 50 off" on the banner, and the money taken off in their basket.
Applies to
You have two choices:
- Whole cart (picked when you start): the discount comes off every item in the customer's cart. The cart is the customer's basket: everything they are ordering. In your Promos list, the code shows Whole cart.
- Some items: the discount comes off only the items you pick. The rest of the basket stays full price. In your Promos list, the code shows the item name, or a label like "3 items".
With MVR off and two or more items, the app says: "The amount comes off these items together, once per order." For example, MVR 20 off Chocolate cake and Juice gives MVR 20 off in all. It is not MVR 20 off each.
On a new code, tapping Whole cart or Some items also changes the Show on my storefront switch. See Show on my storefront below.
Customers see"off Chocolate cake" under the code in their basket. If their basket does not have the item, they see "This code is for Chocolate cake." When the code is for one item, they also get a link Add Chocolate cake.
Which items?
This sheet opens when you tap Choose items. Tap each item the code is for. A green tick shows in the small box on the right. Then tap Use 1 item at the bottom (or Use 3 items if you picked 3). Until you pick one, the button says Pick items and you cannot tap it.
To find items faster:
- Type a name in the Search items box. If nothing matches, it says "No items found."
- Tap one of your categories (your groups of items) at the top, like Cakes. Tap All to see every item again.
- To pick every item you see, tap the button on the right, above the list. It says something like Pick all 5 in Cakes. Then it says Clear 5 in Cakes. Tap it again to clear them. If you do not see this button, pick a category or search first.
Only items that are Shown are in the list. Items that are Sold out or Hidden are not. See Mark an item sold out or hide it.
To go back without changes, tap Back at the top left.
After you pick, the box shows the item name and price, or a line like "3 items". Tap Change to pick again. Later, an item you picked may be Sold out or Hidden. The box then counts it as hidden, for example "· 1 hidden".
How much off (%)
The box says How much off (%) when you picked Percent off. It says How much off (MVR) when you picked MVR off.
It starts with a grey 0. Type a number bigger than 0. A percent cannot be more than 100.
Minimum order (MVR)
This is the least a customer must spend to use the code. It starts at 0, which means there is no minimum.
With Some items, the minimum counts the whole basket, not only the items you picked.
In your Promos list, the code shows "Min order MVR 200".
Customers see"min MVR 200" on the banner. For example, the minimum is MVR 200 and a customer has MVR 150 in the basket. When they try the code, they see "Spend MVR 50 more to use this code."
Show on my storefront
Your storefront is your shop page, the page customers order from. This switch puts the code on a banner there. A banner is a coloured box on your shop page, above your items. The app says: "Your shop page shows one code as a banner at a time."
On a new code, the switch starts on (green) for Whole cart. It turns off by itself when you tap Some items. It turns back on when you tap Whole cart. It stops doing this once you tap the switch yourself. When you edit a code, the switch does not change by itself. Check it before you tap Save changes.
When it is on, the code can be the banner on your shop page. The code on your banner is added for customers when their basket can use it. They do not need to type it.
Customers seea banner like "SAVE10 · 10% off · min MVR 200". For a code for some items, the banner names them, like "CAKE20 · 20% off Chocolate cake". In the basket, the banner code shows as "Shop offer SAVE10".
When it is off, the code is private. In your Promos list, the code shows a black Private label. Customers only know about it if you send it to them. For a code for some items, the app says: "This code stays off your storefront. Send it to the customers you want to give it to."
Number of uses
This is how many times the code can be used in all. You can tap:
- One customer: the code works for one order. Then it stops.
- 10 uses: the code works for 10 orders.
- No limit (picked when you start): the code works for any number of orders.
You can also type any number in the Or type a number box. Leave it empty for no limit.
In your Promos list, the code shows how many times it was used, like "3 of 10 used". With no limit it shows "3 used". When all uses are gone, the code says Limit reached.
Customers see"Code is fully used." The code also leaves the banner.
Expiry date
This is the last day the code works. It starts empty, which means the code never ends.
Tap the box and pick a day. Under the box, it says "Leave empty for no expiry". To take a date off, clear the box.
In your Promos list, the code shows "ends 30 Oct", or "no expiry". After that day, the code says Expired.
Customers see"Code has expired." The code also leaves the banner.
Edit code
- Tap the code, not the switch. A sheet called Edit code opens.
- Change the settings you need.
- Tap Save changes at the bottom.
When you edit a code, the Show on my storefront switch does not change by itself. Check it before you save.
If customers already used the code and you change its name, the app says: "Customers who already have the old code will not be able to use it."
If you set Number of uses to the number already used or lower, the app warns you. For example: "This code has already been used 3 times. With this limit it will stop working."
Delete this code
- Tap the code. A sheet called Edit code opens.
- Tap Delete this code at the bottom.
- Read the note: "This code will stop working right away. Past orders are not affected."
- Tap Delete.
To keep the code, tap Cancel instead.
Customers see"Code not found." if they type a deleted code.
Who can use it
Only the shop owner can make, change, pause or delete promo codes. Senior managers, managers and staff cannot open Promos.
Promo codes need a Storefront. They are not part of the free listing.
Common mistakes
A red message shows when I tap Create code
The same messages can show when you tap Save changes. Each one says what to fix:
- "Code must be 3 to 24 characters. Letters, numbers, dashes and underscores only." Use 3 to 24 letters or numbers, with no spaces. For example, SAVE10, not SAVE 10.
- "Enter an amount greater than 0." Type a number bigger than 0 under How much off (%) or How much off (MVR). The grey 0 is only an example.
- "Percent cannot be more than 100." Type 100 or less.
- "Number of uses must be 1 or more." Type 1 or more in Or type a number, or leave it empty.
- "Pick the items this code is for." Tap Choose items and pick at least one.
- "That code already exists in your shop. Try a different one." You already have a code with that name. It may be paused, expired or used up. Pick a new name. Or tap the old code in your list, change it, and tap Save changes.
The switch on my code is pale and will not move
The code says Expired or Limit reached. Tap the code. Pick a later Expiry date, or a bigger Number of uses. Then tap Save changes.
I picked One customer, but someone else used the code
One customer means the code works for one order. Anyone who has the code can use it. When Show on my storefront is on, every customer can see the code. Their basket can also add it for them. Tap the code. Turn off Show on my storefront. Then tap Save changes. Send the code only to that customer, in a private message.
My banner shows the wrong code
Your shop page shows one code as a banner at a time. Every new Whole cart code starts with Show on my storefront on. Tap each code you do not want on the banner. Turn off Show on my storefront, then tap Save changes.
What I typed is gone
The X at the top right closes the sheet, and what you typed is not saved. Tapping the dark part of the screen does the same. This is true in Which items? too. To go back to your code from Which items?, tap Back at the top left.
Tip
Make a different code for each place you share it. For example, INSTA10 for Instagram and STALL10 for your market stall. Turn off Show on my storefront on both. Later, look at the "used" number on each code. It shows which place brings you more orders.
