What it is

Some customers live on islands your rider cannot reach. With ferry delivery, you take the package to their boat before it leaves. The customer tells you the boat, its phone number and when it leaves. You can add your own charge and tell customers how you send.

Find it

  1. Tap Settings in the bar at the bottom.
  2. Scroll down to Delivery & payments.
  3. Tap Delivery. A sheet called Delivery opens. (A sheet is a panel that covers part of the screen.)
  4. Find the first card, I deliver to them.
  5. If it has no green tick, tap it.
  6. Scroll down to Send far orders by boat or ferry.
  7. Tap its switch. It turns green and three boxes open.

On a computer, Settings is in the bar on the left.

Every setting

Fill in what you need, then tap Save at the bottom of the sheet. In Settings, the grey line under Delivery now shows "· ferry".

Send far orders by boat or ferry

The switch starts off. Under the title, it says "Off" or "On". The three boxes under it are all optional.

If you turn the switch off and tap Save, the app keeps what you typed. Turn it on again, and it comes back.

Customers see

a Ferry choice at checkout (the last page, where customers place the order). Its price is your delivery fee plus your Ferry delivery surcharge (your own extra charge for the ferry). When there is nothing to pay, it says "Free".

Customers can also find you in the Eveyla shop list. When they pick an island you do not deliver to, your shop can show under "Sends by ferry".

How it works (optional)

Tell customers how you send by ferry. For example, the days you send and where. The box shows an example in grey. Type your own words.

Under the box, the app says "Optional. Shown to customers at checkout. Leave blank to show nothing."

Customers see

your words in a box that starts with FROM and your shop name, when they pick Ferry.

Ferry delivery surcharge (MVR), optional

This is your own charge for sending the order on the ferry. It is added to the order total. The box shows "Leave blank for none" in grey. Leave it empty for no charge.

Customers see

two lines when they tap the total at checkout. "Delivery to the boat" shows your delivery fee. "Boat handling by the shop" shows your surcharge.

Under the total, your delivery fee and surcharge show as one amount. For example: "Includes MVR 50 to the boat". When both are 0, it says "Free delivery to the boat".

When the order reaches your free delivery amount, "Delivery to the boat" is free. Your surcharge is still added.

Ferry or boat fee (MVR), optional

This is the boat's own fee to carry the package. The customer pays the boat crew. It is not added to the order total. The box shows "Leave blank if it varies" in grey.

Customers see

"The boat crew charges about MVR 30 for the package. Paid to the boat crew when it arrives, not part of this total."

What customers fill in

When customers tap Ferry, they read: "The shop takes your package to your boat before it leaves. Ask the crew if a detail is missing." Then they fill in:

  • Ships from: the island where you hand the order to the boat. If you send from one island only, it is already filled in.
  • To your island: their island. If it is not in the list, they tap "Not listed. Type it in".
  • Boat name: the name painted on the boat.
  • Boat phone: the crew's mobile number.
  • When it leaves: Today, Tomorrow or Other day, then a time. Other day also asks for a date.
  • Leaves from: the jetty (the place where the boat leaves). From Malé, they tap North Harbour, Jetty 1, near MMA, T-Jetty or Somewhere else. From other islands, they type it.
  • Collected by: their own name. To use another name, they tap Someone else.

They cannot place the order until all of these are filled in. Next to their own phone number, checkout says "The shop calls about your boat".

What you see on a ferry order

The order page says Ferry order. A box called Send via this boat (shown in capital letters) shows the boat name and the boat phone. Tap the phone number to call the crew. The box also shows Departure island, From and Departs.

Above the box, Name on package shows who the crew hands it to. This is the customer, or the person they typed after Someone else.

Your surcharge shows as Ferry surcharge in the money lines. On the receipt, the delivery fee and surcharge show as one line, "Ferry delivery". See Everything on an order page and Save or share a receipt.

Customers see

a step called "On the boat" on their order page. See What customers see after they order.

On the prep sheet, orders on a boat that leaves soon come first. A card says something like "Pack for the 14:30 ferry first". See Prep sheet step 2: pack the orders.

Who can use it

Only the owner can set up ferry delivery. Team members do not see Settings.

It needs a Storefront. It is not part of the free listing.

Common mistakes

I cannot find Send far orders by boat or ferry

The card shows only when I deliver to them has a green tick. Tap that card at the top of the sheet. Then scroll down. Customers only see Ferry at checkout when both are on.

A red message says "Ferry delivery surcharge must be 0 or more."

Type only numbers, like 50. Do not type a minus sign, letters or commas. Or leave the box empty. The message "Ferry/boat fee must be 0 or more." has the same fix, in Ferry or boat fee (MVR), optional.

The boat fee is not in the order total

This is normal. The customer pays the boat fee to the crew. If you want money for taking the order to the boat, type it in Ferry delivery surcharge (MVR), optional.

My ferry settings are gone

The X at the top right closes the sheet without saving. Tapping the dark part of the screen does the same. Fill in the boxes again, then tap Save.

Tip

In How it works (optional), write the days you take orders to the boat. Add the jetty you use. For example: "We bring orders to North Harbour on Sunday and Thursday. Call us if your boat leaves before 10 am." Customers then pick a boat you can reach.
