What it is
What one costs you is what you pay for one item. For example, what you pay your supplier, or what the ingredients cost. Eveyla then shows what you make on each one you sell. In Insights, you also see your profit for each item. Customers never see it.
Find it
- Tap Items in the bar at the bottom.
- Tap the item's name or photo, not the button on the right of its row.
- Tap the big Price tile on the left. A panel called Price opens.
- Scroll down to What one costs you.
On a computer, Items is in the bar on the left. The item opens on the right side of the screen.
Every setting
To add what an item costs you:
- Tap the What one costs you box. It says "Optional" in grey.
- Type what one costs you, like 30.
- Tap Done at the top right.
What one costs you
The box is empty when you start. Under it, the app says "Only you see this".
When you type a cost, a green line shows what you make. For example, the price is MVR 50 and the cost is MVR 30. The line says "You make MVR 20 on each one." When the item is on sale, it uses the sale price and adds "during the sale". If the cost is more than what customers pay, a red line says, for example, "You lose MVR 5 on each one."
The Price tile may also show "You make MVR 20" under the price.
To take the cost off, clear the box and tap Done.
With the Packs and barcodes add-on, the app adds: "When you add stock and type what you paid, this becomes the average cost." When Packs is on for the item, it starts with, for example, "This is the cost of one bottle."
If you also keep stock in more than one place, you see Cost at each place. It shows a cost or "Not known yet" for each place. The app says: "An average of what you paid there. Moving stock carries its cost along." See Packs and barcodes: stock and costs at each place.
Profit in Insights
After you add costs, Insights shows your profit:
- Tap Insights in the bar at the bottom.
- Tap Items at the top.
- Tap Profit.
You see "Profit by item". Items with no cost are faded, with "no cost yet" and an Add cost button. Add cost opens your Items page. Tap an item in the list to see its own numbers, with a Profit box. See See which items sell.
The Sales by item report also shows profit. See Sales summary, sales by item and other free reports.
Who can use it
Only the owner can see and change What one costs you. Senior managers, managers and staff do not see this box.
It needs a Storefront.
Common mistakes
A red message shows when I tap Done
- "Type what it costs you as a number, like 260." You typed a letter or a sign. Type only the number, like 30.
- "That cost is too big. Check the number." Look for an extra 0.
It says "Saved, but the cost didn't save. Try again."
Your other changes saved, but the cost did not. The app adds "Fix it here, or close to put it back as it was." The Price panel opens again.
- Check your internet.
- Delete the cost in the box.
- Type the cost again.
- Tap Done.
An orange box says "Couldn't load what it costs you."
The cost did not load, so a cost you type now will not save. Close the item and open it again. Then type the cost.
I can't find What one costs you
You are not signed in as the owner. Only the owner sees this box.
Insights says "Add what each item costs you and your profit shows here."
None of the items you sold in this period has a cost yet. Add costs to those items. Insights shows profit only for items that have a cost.
Tip
Start with your best sellers. Add their costs first. Then open Profit in Insights to see which items make you the most money.
